With
a background of more than 60 years of publishing books of distinguished
authorship and high production standards, we are pleased to call
attention here to the major fields of interest in which we currently
had active programs.

Architecture
and Interior Design
Published for the most part under the imprint of our associated company,
the Architectural Book Publishing Co., (founded in 1895), we are
also the U.S.A. distributors of books in this field originating in
Germany, Switzerland, England, and Mexico.

Children's
Books
Publishing a selective list of about 16 titles per year, there are
now numerous titles ranging from kindergarten age to books for young
adults.

Communication
Arts Books
Authoritative books on the mass media (television, radio, motion
pictures, journalism) comprise a steadily expanding program in these
areas including two new series, Studies in Public Communication and
Studies in Media Management under the editorship of Dr. A. William
Bluem of Syracuse University, and the distinguished Library of Communication
Techniques and the FOCAL ENCYCLOPEDIA OF FILM AND TELEVISION TECHNIQUES
published in cooperation with Focal Press Ltd., London.

Cookery
and Wines
Headlined by books such as Frank Schoonmaker's ENCYCLOPEDIA
OF WINE and THE WINES OF GERMANY, Edouard Kressmann's THE WONDER
OF WINE,
our program in this field includes the Chamberlains' "In Recipes
and Pictures" series (THE FLAVOR OF FRANCE, 2 VOLUMES, THE FLAVOR
OF ITALY, THE SAMPLER OF AMERICAN COOKING) with Samuel Chamberlain
photographs and many others.

and Americana
Featuring authentic books of Western Americana such as the epics
of the Great Plains by Mari Sandoz (8 volumes, of which THE BEAVER
MEN: Spearheads of Empire was the last published) and books illustrated
by the great Western artist, Nick Eggenhofer, this program has included
titles such as GREAT AMERICAN MANSIONS (in two volumes) by Merrill
Folsom, A PICTURE REPORT OF THE CUSTER FIGHT by William Reusswig,
The American Procession Series edited by Henry G. Alsberg, and a
new series on the English Heritage in America by Parke Rouse, Jr.
now including VIRGINIA and PLANTERS AND PIONEERS.

Hastings House is the book trade distributor in the U.S.A. of many
titles originated by American Photographic Book Publishing Co.
(Amphoto) and Focal Press Ltd.

Religious
History
Publication of The Bible in History, a 12-volume series under
the general editorship of Father R. Tamiser of Saint-Sulpice,
Paris in
association with the K. S. Giniger Co. and Darton, Longman & Todd,
London.

Travel
A wide range of titles under the general subject of "travel" was
included in this program, for example: The American Guide Series
of 25 state and regional Guides (CALIFORNIA, WASHINGTON, D.C., and
TEXAS, published in completely revised editions with other revisions
in active preparation); THE NEW ENGLAND IMAGE and other photographic "guides" by
Samuel Chamberlain on the American scene. An exciting new series
of color books, Profiles of America, has been introduced with SAN
FRANCISCO IN COLOR by T. H. Watkins and TIDEWATER VIRGINIA IN COLOR
by Parke Rouse, Jr., NEW ENGLAND IN COLOR by Stuart Beach and Samuel
Chamberlain, CHICAGO IN COLOR by Robert Cromie.
Started
in 1982 by editor/writer Earl Steinbicker and Hastings House,
the Daytrips series
was created with the intent of organizing for the busy tourist
one-day, self-guided adventures that are easily taken from
convenient bases. Each book in the series is designed to meet
every possible need of the tourist and contains concise descriptions
of all sights, as well as photographs, road and town maps,
walking tours, do-it-yourself tours, and much, much more. Daytrips titles
span the globe; including most of the U.S., Europe, and soon,
Australia. The series will soon contain 20 titles. In 1997
alone, the Daytrips series
accounted for 39% of Hastings House gross sales. Projected
gross sales for 2002 exceed this figure by at least 40%. Currently
one of the fastest growing line of travel books in the world,
the series has sold over 500,000 copies to date.

Communications Books
The graphic arts and related applied arts, including ILLUSTRATORS
ANNUAL published for the Society of Illustrators. Hastings House
is proud, to have been for many years, the exclusive American distributors
of GRAPHIS ANNUAL of International Advertising Art )Walter Herdeg,
editor) and now the new PHOTOGRAPHIS ANNUAL; THE PENROSE ANNUAL (Herbert
Spencer, editor); INTERNATIONAL POSTER ANNUAL (Arthur Niggli, editor)
as well as many other books in this field originating in Switzerland
and England.
