Started in 1982 by editor/writer Earl Steinbicker and Hastings House, the Daytrips series was created with the intent of organizing for the busy tourist one-day, self-guided adventures that are easily taken from convenient bases. Each book in the series is designed to meet every possible need of the tourist and contains concise descriptions of all sights, as well as photographs, road and town maps, walking tours, do-it-yourself tours, and much, much more. Daytrips titles span the globe; including most of the U.S., Europe, and soon, Australia. The series will soon contain 20 titles. In 1997 alone, the Daytrips series accounted for 39% of Hastings House gross sales. Projected gross sales for 2002 exceed this figure by at least 40%.
